The Great Commandments - Lord's Words and Verses Explained
THE GREAT COMMANDMENT(S)
In this Lord's Word Bible study, we will look at the two great commandments as well as, what is considered the Golden Rule.Jesus Christ was asked a question by a very clever lawyer to see if he could tempt Jesus, to tell him which of the commandments was the greatest, and Jesus explained which were the great commandments. All text taken from the King James BibleLet us begin this Bible study with a prayer, O God, thy heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom and knowledge, so that I may be able to understand this document, in Jesus name. Amen. Matt.22:36-40 - Master, which is the great commandment in the law? (37) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (38) This is the first and great commandment. (39) The second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (40) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. The first 4, of the ten commandments, are covered under the 1st great commandment. The last 6, of the ten commandments, are covered under the 2nd great commandment. Therefore, Jesus completely covered all ten commandments using only two, called great commandments, and silenced the lawyer.Considered To Be The Golden RuleMatt.7:12 - Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Paraphrased - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. In otherwords, for example, do not say, or, do something to somebody else, if you would not like the same thing done to you. These two commandments are found in the New Testament. In the Old Testament they are very similar and go as follows: Deut.6:5-8 - And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. (6) And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: (7) And thou shalt teach (engrave) them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. (8) And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
